Manly P. Hall Great Philospher and Teacher of the Twentieth Century

"To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly." - Henri-Louis Bergson

Lifelong learning is something I never planned for as a child. I was aware that one went to school until graduation, then perhaps on to college, if one desired to take that direction, yet I had no clues about the ultimate joys of pursuing knowledge on one's own and the great rewards of choosing to explore the available teachings of so many learned people.

I was amazed at all I discovered to have been lacking in public education and the value one could find if we just take the initiative and remain open minded to all teachings, found worldwide, in the writings and talks of people from all ages and cultures.

Today I'm making sure my children, grandchildren and beyond, along with friends and acquaintenances learn through my own example to adopt the practice known as K.A.N.I....(constant and never ending improvement).

To stretch their minds and seek knowledge from all sources available to them, not just limit themselves to only what someone else decides they should be learning.

To not get so lost in day to day living that they lose their childlike enthusiasm to learn all they can about everything to do with life and the joyful living of it....

Today, I want to share a seminar with this great philosopher that was recorded just a few days before his death.

Mr. Hall reveals in this seminar the process by which each person experiences the growth of their inner light over and above the pressures and problems of busy daily life..

"Manly P. Hall, the Philosophical Research Society's first president, was a seeker and lover of wisdom, the very definition of a philosopher. He had the courage and the raw intellectual energy to look for wisdom in places most men had long since forgotten about, or never knew existed. He lived in an era when most Americans did not look toward other cultures and traditions, without looking down. Yet during such times, Manly P. Hall spoke, and wrote extensively, of the wisdom found in all ancient traditions. In an age when serious study of "other religions" was anathema to most, he found deep cross-cultural threads and revealed many interconnected roots of modern religious expression. Neither Guru nor Saint, he made no claim of perfection, far from it; but his work is exceedingly rare in its grand scope, detail and synthesis. He embraced the wisdom of every tradition, and, with a fluid command of their obscure and complex contents, worked to express their unifying truths. His legacy is over 200 printed volumes, 8000 lectures, a hand picked library which is one of the finest in the field, and a Society and University that continue in his spirit of universal exploration and learning."

I acknowledge too that I had run across some videos by him before online, however, was turned off by the list of keywords listed at the side of the video.

Today I realize that what he teaches is not really related to these things other than his library offers books on all subjects for comparative studies by those who seek truth and increased knowledge.

This man's personal beliefs and teachings are actually delightful, highly reliable knowledge based on many years of his own comparative studies and his smile and sense of humor come thru often to the appreciative students.

I just learned about Manly P. Hall a few weeks ago, and already he's had a strong influence on the way I think. I just graduated from college a few years ago with a philosophy degree, but I felt, like you did, that a lot seemed to be lacking. And now, I've also just recently discovered the joys of "self-education," and writing Hubs, like you. The internet makes "self-education" a lot easier, no?
