Taking Charge of Our Health
Many doctors, nutritionists and others are greatly concerned today about the constant move to regulate or even ban supplements.
It would be wise for all of us to at least educate ourselves on the issues and to take any steps we can...writing our elected officials, signing petitions and/or just talking with others at any opportunity about the danger of the loss of personal freedoms of choice regarding healthcare.
I was impressed with the interview I've posted here today as it sheds light on many current health issues and also reveals what the FDA and others are doing to circumvent our right of personal choice, even in what products we wish to buy to enhance our ongoing health and vitality.
The interview is also a very basic introduction to Homeopathy, a subject I never personally knew much about, and was always curious to know more.
Because of this new knowledge our family has now looked beyond just taking some vitamins and minerals and a few herbs. The homeopathic field is fascinating and we have now purchased some of the homeopathic formulas and have been very pleased with the results.
Also covered is the importance of integrative medicine. As far as testing done on nutritionals or drugs in the world of conventional medicine, they are generally running double blind studies with a large number of patients and will be giving one drug or a combination of just a few drugs, nutrients or treatments to all patients.
No effort is made to treat each person on an individual basis, and it's entirely possible that whole body care is way more important in determining the outcome than they are recognizing. Perhaps the thing they tested and said didn't work would have worked well indeed in combination with other things, or some lifestyle changes for an individual patient. And something else would have worked for another patient.
However, the reseachers and doctors are more focused on finding one program of treatment that works for the majority of the particular people in the one study. A search for the 'silver bullet', so to speak.
It is very sad that our food supply is not reliable as a complete source for ongoing health and wellbeing, yet it's even sadder that there are those who wish to control what we can or cannot supplement our diet with to simply attain a nutrient dense balanced diet today. And to even control which conventional or alternative medical treatment we wish to take advantage of personally.
Will look forward to your comments, ideas, or suggestions about anything to do with alternative healthcare choices, along with other things we might do to protect our personal freedome of choice,
DJ
Some of the nformation included with the audio of the interview done by George Noory of "Coast to Coast" with Dr. Falkov and three other experts from the Health Freedom Panel she brought together.
"Dr. Robin Falkov is licensed acupuncture physician with extensive training in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. She is a Diplomate of the National Board of Homeopathic Examiners and has worked with Homeopathy for over 20 years. She has had one of the earliest wholesale accounts with the well known, pioneering Life Extension Foundation in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and has worked with nutritional supplements for over 25 years. She currently resides in New Mexico and consults with patients by telephone and the Internet.
Falkov presented a Health Freedom Panel in which she was joined by three experts in alternative healthcare. Falkov expressed concern, which was echoed by the panelists, that pending FDA legislation could dramatically restrict consumers' access to alternative treatments and choices. She also voiced opposition to a possible North American Union as well as Universal Health Care plans, which could reduce health care options under a centralized bureaucracy. Her website, healthfreedomrights.com, offers ways for people to have their viewpoints be heard. You can also write to the FDA at the address below.

I agree, great hub. Keep us informed!!
The regulation of homeopathic remedies has an interesting history in the US. It is FDA approved which is better than many herbal supplements, etc. which have had legal problems. I think sometimes it is confusing to the general public how to use homeopathic remedies. Many people will see a specific condition and then try the remedy and most times it may work for a short time but not offer a deep long lasting curative effect. The reason is that homeopathy does not work by prescribing a remedy based on the diagnosis which is how most medicine is used. In homeopathy it is actually the unusual symptoms and individual experience of the disease that points to a deep acting constitutional remedy which will heal not only the chief complaint but other physical, mental and emotional problems.
This is hard for the general public to grasp because it is another way to think. Many times a client with more chronic condition will need to seek a qualified homeopath. I recommend only certified homeopaths (preferable a CCH) or someone who has graduated from a recognized homeopathic school. It is possible to easily learn to use homeopathy for first aid and acute prescribing. There are many good books to begin with like Dana Ullman's "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathy," or Miranda Castro's "The Complete Homeopathy Handbook."
